Obesogens and Weight Gain

"Simply put, obesogens are chemicals that disrupt the function of our hormonal system, leading to weight gain and many of the diseases that curse the American populace. They enter out bodies from a variety of sources-from natural compounds found in soy products, from artificial hormones fed to our animals, from plastic pollutants in some food packaging, from chemicals added to processed foods, and from pesticides sprayed on our produce. They act in a variety of ways-mimicking human hormones such as estrogen, blocking the action of other hormones such as testosterone, and, in some cases, altering the functions of our genes and essentially programming us to gain weight." (Perrine, 2010) from the book Why Diets are Failing Us! by Peter Greenlaw, Dennis Harper, Drew Greenlaw

This is a great read. Check it out!

Yet Another Reason for Nutritional Cleansing

More Evidence the Main Ingredient in Round Up Causes Harm

Another study proving the effect of Glyphosate on humans is not safe.  This is significant because Glyphosate is the main ingredient in Round Up.  Round Up is the molecular structure that companies like Monsanto have used to genetically modify their seeds so they are resistant to it, and then they can douse their crops in Round Up and the plant won't die.  However, we are ingesting this chemical.  Although we have been told it's safe...there is a lot of evidence it is not safe at all!  This study indicates the effect of Glyphosate had proliferative effects on hormone dependant breast cancer in humans.
Hmmmm...now isn't that interesting?  And we wonder why Breast Cancer incidence seems to be on the rise in the last 20 years?  Sure makes one wonder...
Again, more reason for me to avoid GMO foods, and to continue with my nutritional cleansing regiment!  I have never felt healthier doing this!  Contact me or visit my website if you are interesting in starting Isagenix Nutritional Cleansing.

Study Provides Evidence the Main Ingredient in Round Up is Not Safe for Humans

More Evidence that GMO Seed is Not Safe!

Take a moment to check out this recent study providing evidence that the main ingredient in Round Up, Glyphosate, is an overlooked component of it's toxicity to mammals.  It can be found mostly in the the sugar, corn, soy and wheat of the Western diet.  As it states in the abstract:

"Consequences are most of the diseases and conditions associated with a Western diet, which include gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease."

Another reason why it is so important to eat organic, non-GMO food and incorporate nutritional cleansing into our diets!
Isagenix has a great nutritional cleanse program and organic non-GMO, high quality nutrition that is convenient and easy to use.

GMO Wheat Found on Oregon Farm

Other Countries Don't Allow GMO Foods, Why Do We?

If you have read the news today in Oregon, one of the more interesting headlines includes a topic about an Eastern Oregon Farmer who found GMO Wheat seed on his farm.  (See article below).  This article speaks mostly to the economic impact this will have on the market, which is significant.  However I am still more concerned about the health effects that GMO foods have on our body, and the tendency toward disease I think they cause.  It brings up the question:  Why are other countries banning this type of seed and the USA continues to allow production and farming with this seed?  The conclusion one almost immediately arrives at it that the company making this GMO seed (Monsanto) is US based company that is profiting from the sale of this seed in the US.
Certainly other countries, such as Japan, must have enough evidence to feel this type of food product is not safe enough for their citizens to suspend purchase of the seed.  Maybe the US should re-think this whole use of GMO seeds.  Maybe this huge economic impact will be just enough for the FDA to reconsider GMO food safety.  I certainly hope so.  For the health and wellness of all of us.
In the meantime, I am continuing with my commitment to nutritional cleansing and avoiding GMO foods.  If you are interested in doing the same, check out my Isagenix website for more information and feel free to contact me.

GMOs

(Genetically Modified Organisms)

Have you heard of GMOs before?  Any idea what they are?  I will admit I had never heard of GMOs until a couple years ago when I watched a documentary called, Food Inc.
The definition of GMO as taken from Wikipedia (abreviated):
Genetically modified crops (GMCs, GM crops, or biotech crops) are plants, the DNA of which has been modified using genetic engineering techniques, to resist pests and agents causing harm to plants and to improve the growth of these plants to assist in farmers efficiency.
Okay, so I get it...farmers probably got irritated by pests destroying their crops, needed to use a bunch of pesticide to keep the bugs off, which probably cost more and more money, and probably even caused some of the plants to not survive.  Maybe significant enough to make their crop not profitable.  This is all speculation of course, but wouldn't that seem like a plausible scenario?  Enter on the scene, GMO seed companies (one of them is called Monsanto).  GMO seed companies are able to create a seed that will automatically resist pesticides, and some produce a toxin call Bt that kills some insects the minute they start feeding on the plant!  Wow, right?  I bet that would be really exciting for a farmer...no worries about pouring a ton of pesticide on your crop because the plants will survive it.  The bugs will be dead, and the crops will yield huge amounts.  Fantastic!  Technology is amazing!

Hold up a minute!  There have been some studies indicating genetically modifying seeds to be resistant to pesticides can actually cause our bodies harm.  Genetic Roulette is a great documentary describing concerns about GMOs.

I have found other people's objections to this video and book (I guess it was a book first) stating generally that the studies do not have merit for various reasons.

But here is the deal:  I learned that when you purchase Monsanto GMO seed, you are required to sign a contract stating you won't re-sell, you won't use second generation seeds (because that forces the consumer to purchase more each year they have to plant a new crop-which is more dollars for the company), and here is the big one...you cannot use the seeds for research unless the company first approves of the research.  So, basically, the only "approved" studies that have been done on Monsantos GMOs are studies that have been funded or approved by Monsanto.

I have trouble with that concept.  If the study is run by the company, or funded by the company, it is considered biased in my opinion.
Frankly there is enough evidence for me to be compelled to avoid GMOs.  There is reason to believe these GMOs could be contributing to chronic diseases such as Inflammatory Bowel Disorders, Diabetes, Autoimmune diseases, Fertility issues, and who knows what else because Monsanto probably wouldn't approve a study that could possibly show such results!! That would not be profitable for them.

What is really important?  The health of our nation or the profits of a seed company?  Hmmm....not hard for me to decide!  Check this article out:
GMO Scandal: The Long Term Effects of Genetically Modified Food on Humans

All that to say, I'm not a scholar and I certainly am not the best author or writer, but I do believe that most average Americans would relate with my thoughts.  Who wants to sign up to eat food that could be causing chronic conditions, shortening our life and making us altogether less healthy??

I am going to choose not to eat GMO foods.  And what solution have I for all the GMO foods that I have already consumed unknowingly, that may have caused pesticides to reside in my intestinal tract causing all kinds of potential health concerns?  I have adopted a cleanse routine.  I posted about this topic earlier.  There are all kinds of cleanse routines out there, and I have chosen one that I think is safe and effective.  (If you are interested in my cleanse routine visit my website at Jana's Improved Health with Isagenix.  On this website you can contact me and I can answer any questions.  You can also purchase the cleanse routine I have adopted)
I hope by eliminating GMO foods, incorporating high quality nutrition, and cleansing toxins out of my body that I can achieve ultimate health and wellness. I certainly am in favor of long life, healthy life, and more days feeling good and enjoying my family!

Cleanse....what, are you kidding me??

Have you heard about nutritional cleansing?  It seems to be the hot topic or trend depending on who you are speaking with.  I mean, I've heard of celebrities doing a colonic before walking the red carpet for the Oscars or other extreme measures to get that perfect looking body.  Would I actually go to such extremes just to look good?  Probably not.  However, there is more information about cleansing that has caught my attention.  There is reason to believe, if done correctly, nutritional cleansing can have amazing health benefits for your body.  I mean, besides looking great, nutritional cleansing could help us live healthy, long lives.
Sooo....what is it, you ask?  There is actually all kinds of different methods people suggest as cleansing.  What I am talking about, is a botanical solution that supports the liver in our body's natural ability to cleanse.  Our amazing human bodies already have a "cleansing" system...our liver!  The liver is our body's natural ability to detox.  But one wonders...do you think our liver was ever created to be exposed to the amount of toxins we are exposed to today?  Probably not.  So why not use botanicals and herbs to help increase our livers ability to cleanse.  Combine that with a day of fasting, to allow our digestive system to rest, and it is amazing how much better your body feels!  So what is this botanical creation?  Honestly the best solution I have found is through Isagenix.  They have formulated a solution to this very problem.  Cleanse for Life is a high quality botanical solution that helps aid the liver in cleansing.  I know, because I use it frequently, and the result?  My energy is increased, my health is improved, and I have also (bonus) lost weight.
Check this article about detoxification, it explains this concept perfectly:

If you are interested in trying this concept, email me and I can provide you with an opportunity to get started on this nutritional cleansing routine.  I would be thrilled for everyone to feel the health benefits I have felt-I mean after all, that is why I became a nurse, to help people achieve optimum health.
This is only the tip of the iceberg of nutrition and health.  If we are honestly trying to achieve health, we must combine high quality nutrition with cleansing...guess that will be another post in the future. :)  Stay tuned!

Allow me to introduce myself ...

I am a mother, a Registered Nurse, and a passionate advocate for whole body health and wellness.  I have several goals, including:
  1. Share personal experience, evidence-based information (I have found or stumbled upon), and wellness solutions.
  2. Move away from unhealthy foods including processed foods, GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms), non-organic foods, and mass produced, antibiotic and hormone injected, corn fed beef, chicken or fish.
  3. Share my experiences and journey as I pursue these goals.  (Which could be comical...my husband has already endured freakish purging of all plastic containers in the kitchen after my discovery that they can leech harmful substances into food.  Not to mention my most recent addition, cedar raised garden beds to try to grow organic vegetables in our backyard...did I mention I have no green thumb whatsoever!!)
As a mother, I have a vested interest, and a responsibility, to guide my daughter to a healthy lifestyle that will provide her with the best quality life she can imagine.  My belief is to instill healthy habits for my daughter, so that she may excel in all areas of her life.  As a RN, I have worked with patients suffering from chronic health conditions such as Diabetes, Coronary Artery Disease, Congestive Heart Failure, and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or Emphysema)...to name a few.  I have spent significant time researching illness prevention and witnessed the pain and suffering as a results of my experiences with patients.  Although I have not thought of a cure, (otherwise I would be independently wealthy and a household name) I continually come across new ways to improve my health and prevent illness.  This will serve as an ongoing journal of discovery and applied methods to attempt to continue to improve health and promote wellness.  I hope you enjoy my thoughts and find something that will inspire your own journey to health and wellness.
See my "About Me" page to learn more about my personal journey.
Oh...and did I mention this is my first blog ever...so I apologize in advance for my "rookie" blogging skills!!
